Ruby Meadows Hawkins, 90, of Alexander, died on Tuesday, December 16, 2008, at Memorial Campus Mission Hospitals.
A native of Buncombe Co., Mrs. Hawkins was a daughter of the late James and Jossie Embler Meadows. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Porter Woodrow Hawkins, who died on January 20, 2008; and sister, Willie Parham.
Mrs. Hawkins was a member of French Broad Baptist Church.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Elizabeth H. Edwards and husband Arnold, of Alexander, and Shelia H. Amerson and husband Andrew, of Alexander; son and daughter-in-law, Wayne Hawkins and wife Joann, of Alexander; sisters, Bernice Hunter and Vernie Shelton; brother, Bill Meadows; four grandchildren, Laura Boyte and husband Brian Lisa McCarson and husband Mark, Heather Haygood and husband Adam, and Jeremy Amerson, and four great-grandchildren, Justin and Lindsey Boyte, Kayla McCarson, and Shanlee Haygood.
A funeral service for Mrs. Hawkins will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday at French Broad Baptist Church with the Revs. Dean Haney and Everette Haney officiating. Interment will follow in the church's cemetery.
Her family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave.
