Rufus A. Warren, Sr., 93, of 7 Cottontop Ridge, Candler, died Monday, November 15, 2004, at the Hospice Solace Center.
Mr. Warren was a native of Buncombe County and was a son of the late John Alton and Jessie Rogers Warren. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Edith Stewart Warren who died May 21, 2003, sons, Billy Edward Warren and Rufus A. “Jack” Warren, Jr., daughters-in-law Mona Ingle Warren and Norma Lee Warren, and a great-grandson Devin Donovan Phillips.
He was a millwright mechanic and was retired from American Enka. He was a member of Brown’s View United Methodist Church.
Surviving are three daughters, Arlene Crowe and her husband Albert of Candler, Carolyn Wise and her husband Bob of Horse Shoe, and Loretta Changery and her husband Michael of Weaverville; four sons, Bobby Warren of Asheville, James Benny Ray Warren of Arden, Danny Warren and his wife LaVerne of Candler and Dennis Warren and his wife Cecilia of Kernersville; one sister Elsie Owenby of Asheville; two brothers Buddy Grant Warren and Ralph Warren of Candler; sixteen grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Brown’s View United Methodist Church with the Revs. Ed Worley and Will Pruett officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
His family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service and suggest that memorials be made to Mountain Area Hospice, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813.
