Russell L. Alford, 77, died Friday, September 5, 2014, at the St. Joseph Campus of Mission Hospitals.
Mr. Alford was the son of the late Virgil Rice Alford and Edna Snyder Alford. He was a native of Cincinnati, OH, and had moved to Buncombe Co. seven years ago.
Mr. Alford had retired as an electronic technician at NuTone. He had been a member and sang in the choir of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, Cincinnati. He had most recently been attending St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, Candler.
Russell was a quiet, kind man, generous and easy going. He greatly enjoyed the outdoors, hiking, and exploring the local trails. He will be sadly missed by his family and all who knew him.
Mr. Alford is survived by his wife, Arlene Zimmerman Alford; daughters, Lisa Alford, Julie Pino and husband Pasquale, Jr., and Joy Lintz and husband Michael; grandchildren, Zachary, Emma, Matthew, Gabrielle and Ethan Lintz, Shawn and Christopher Pino, Regina Bell, and Angela, Joshua, and Jessica Pino; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Dean Cesa officiating. Inurnment will follow in the church's columbarium.
Mr. Alford's family will receive friends following the service at the church.
