Ruth Caldwell Novotny, 84, of 66 Gudger Road, Candler, died Sunday, June 2, 2002, at her home.

Mrs. Novotny was born in Buncombe County, was a daughter of the late Jerry and Dare Leatherwood Caldwell and was a member of Oak Forest Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by her husband, Steve F. Novotny; one daughter, Mary Lee Holder and her husband Dan of Fletcher; two grandchildren, Amy Staton and her husband Keith of Candler and Julie Huntley and her husband Rodney of Candler; four great-grandchildren, Emily and Laura Staton and Chase and Logan Huntley; and two sisters, Ethel Norvelle of Newport News, VA and Clara Baker of Graham.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm Tuesday at Oak Forest Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Gale Lammey and the Rev. Timothy W. Meredith officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Her family will receive friends from 7 - 8:30 pm Monday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue and request that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to Oak Forest Presbyterian Church, 880 Sand Hill Road, Asheville, NC 28806 or to Mountain Area Hospice, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813.
