Ruth Jackson Brooks, 92, passed away on Saturday, July 17, 2021.

A native of Buncombe Co., Ruth was a daughter of the late Major Bynum and Pearl Cook Jackson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Lyda Brooks; and siblings, Thelma Godfrey, Christine Eugenides, Lois Godfrey, Juanita Miller, Frances Boone, Roscoe Jackson and Benjamin Jackson.

Ruth was a lifetime member of Oak Hill United Methodist Church. She graduated from Sand Hill High School where she was the President of the Student Body and an active basketball player. She also very much enjoyed bowling in her later years.

She is survived by her son, Timothy Ralph Brooks and fiancée Bethany Miller Arrowood; grandson, Mitchell Lyda Brooks and fiancée Emily McKenna; sister, Jennie Lawing; daughter-in-law, Rhonda Smith Brooks; and many nieces and nephews.

The graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Oak Hill United Methodist Church, 277 Oak Hill Rd., Candler, NC 28715, or to the WNC Baptist Home, 213 Richmond Hill Dr., Asheville, NC 28806.

  1. Ruth was such a nice, kind and friendly person. I worked with her, and knew her and her husband’s family. She always had a smile and a good sense of humor. She will be missed by all who knew her.
