Asheville - Sallie Christine Pounders Johnson, 74, of Asheville, died Monday, November 27, 2000.

A native of Colbert County, Alabama, she was the daughter of the late Walter Eugene and Ella Lou Stanford Pounders and wife of the late James Perry Johnson, who died in 1972. She was a member of the Mountain Springs Baptist Church in Colbert County.

Mrs. Johnson is survived by three daughters, Sally Diane Austin, Carolyn May Johnson and Donna Fay Ghassemieh, all of Asheville; five sons, James Eugene Johnson, Franklin Dee Johnson and David Edward Johnson, all of Asheville, Richard Terry Johnson and Jackie Wheeler Johnson, both of Chicago, Illinois; 17 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 7 pm Wednesday in the chapel of Groce Funeral home at Lake Julian conducted by the Rev. James E. Aydelotte. Burial will be in the Mountain Springs Cemetery in Sheffield, Alabama.

The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home on Long Shoals Road.

Memorials may be made to the Memorial Garden Fund, Oaks at Sweeten Creek, 3864 Sweeten Creek Road, Arden, NC 28704.
