Sara Medlock Christopher, 80, of 47 Belmont Avenue, Asheville, died Friday, March 20, 2009, at her home.
A native of Buncombe County, she was a daughter of the late Joe Will and Bertie Marie Weaver Lyle. She was also preceded in death by her husbands, E. Dale Medlock, Sr. and Jack L. Christopher; siblings, Lionel Lyle, Nora Christopher, Vivian Wells, Don Lyle and a grandson, Glenn Harris.
A graduate of Lee H. Edwards High School, Mrs. Christopher received an Associates Degree in Nursing from Asheville-Buncombe Technical College. She formerly worked at Black Mountain Center, Memorial Mission Hospital and more recently at Brentwood Convalescent Center. She was a member of West Asheville Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Billie Merritt and husband Hardy of Columbia, SC; a son, Dale Medlock and wife Cindy of Swannanoa; two grandchildren, James Lyle Harris and Owen Bray Merritt; six great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Leila Lyle and a nephew, Robert Douglas Wells.
Graveside services will be 1:00 pm Monday at Green Hills Cemetery with the Revs. Mike Siemens and David Lehman officiating.
Her family will receive friends from 11:30-12:30 pm Monday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue prior to leaving for the cemetery.
