Sclomia Poole Rice, 97, formerly of 192 Wellington Street,
Asheville, died Friday, October 9, 1998.
Mrs. Rice was born in Greenville, SC, and was a daughter of the late
Erwin and Arleatha Mullinax Poole. She was the retired owner and
operator of Asheville Reweaving Service on Wall Street, Asheville, and
was a former member of the Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce. She
was a member of State Street Baptist Church and VFW Post 891. She was
preceded in death by a daughter, Lillie Levi in 1993.
She is survived by two daughters, Margie McGill of Candler and
Frances Beddingfield of Mountain Home, NC; a son, Buford Pitman of
Travelers Rest, SC; a sister, Zadie Roberts of Houston, TX; a half-sister,
Thelma Akers of Baltimore, MD; fourteen grandchildren, fifteen great-
grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and one great-great-great-
granddaughter.
Graveside services will be at 11:00 am Wednesday at Grand View
Memorial Gardens, Travelers Rest, with the Revs. Dennis Thurman and
G.W. Jameson officiating.
Her family will receive friends from 7 - 8 pm Tuesday at Groce Funeral
Home and request that memorials be made to Mountain Area Hospice, PO
