Sonny Pettit

Charles Roy “Sonny” Pettit, 73, passed away on Thursday, June 26, 2025, at the Charles George VA Medical Center.
Sonny was the son of the late Charles and Elsie Rawson Pettit. Mr. Pettit proudly served his country in both the Marine Corps and the Navy. He was a skilled welder and enjoyed his time with the Boilermakers. In his freetime, he loved to tend to his garden and flowers.
He is survived by his children, Greg Pettit, Janelle Weatherman (Bryan), Colton Pettit (Cayley), and Tawney Harvell (Will); grandchildren, Brittany, Marshall, Kaden, Jacob, Jaxon, Cason, Hayden, Emma and Isaiah; great-granddaughter, Isla; step-mother, Virginia Ferreira; sisters, Nita Johnson (Doug) and Stacey Hannon; former wife and friend, Martha Hewitt (Jim); cousin, Mark Pettit and many other cousins and family members.
The memorial service, with military honors, will be held on Friday, July 18, at noon at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery Chapel, Black Mountain.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Veterans of Foreign Wars, www.vfw.org.

Sunny, I had known you for more than 50 years. You were a part of our family. You were a kind, sweet man and never met a stranger. My deepest condolences go out to your family. You will be missed terribly.
