Charles Roy “Sonny” Pettit, 73, passed away on Thursday, June 26, 2025, at the Charles George VA Medical Center.

Sonny was the son of the late Charles and Elsie Rawson Pettit. Mr. Pettit proudly served his country in both the Marine Corps and the Navy. He was a skilled welder and enjoyed his time with the Boilermakers. In his freetime, he loved to tend to his garden and flowers.

He is survived by his children, Greg Pettit, Janelle Weatherman (Bryan), Colton Pettit (Cayley), and Tawney Harvell (Will); grandchildren, Brittany, Marshall, Kaden, Jacob, Jaxon, Cason, Hayden, Emma and Isaiah; great-granddaughter, Isla; step-mother, Virginia Ferreira; sisters, Nita Johnson (Doug) and Stacey Hannon; former wife and friend, Martha Hewitt (Jim); cousin, Mark Pettit and many other cousins and family members.

The memorial service, with military honors, will be held on Friday, July 18, at noon at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery Chapel, Black Mountain.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Veterans of Foreign Wars, www.vfw.org.

  2. Sonny my brother you left too soon. You do know that our Mother and I loved you very much. I was happy to have you as a brother when we were very young as I was an only child. Alot of good and some bad memories we shared. Rest in peace my dear 🙏 💔 😢

    • Hey Sunny , I always called you my (Uncle) which you were not but in my mind you will always be My Uncle Sunny , bright spot in my life, sorry I haven’t been around and I didn’t know you we’re sick , I will miss not knowing you are still with us and I will think about you every time I see a butterfly, know you we’re loved by many ❤️
