Sylvia Hanley passed away peacefully at the Solace Center of CarePartners the evening of Friday, September 23, 2022.
After retiring from a career in education, she enjoyed her time at the beach, traveling and playing golf. She was an active member of the Asheville Elks Lodge 608 and the North Carolina Retired Teachers Association.
She leaves behind a daughter, Heather L. Fawcett, and a son, Christopher T. Fawcett, and many, many friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Asheville Elks Lodge or the Holden Beach Turtle Patrol Program.
A celebration of her life will be held at the Asheville Elks Lodge on Thursday, October 13, 2022, at 3:00 p.m.
Groce Funeral Home on Tunnel Road is assisting the family.

I just saw your Mama’s obit on website I couldn’t believe that she’s gone. I really liked having her for a roommate at BC. I am still falling & getting home health & enjoying my hamburgers. It is always hard giving up your parents. Cherish your memories.
