Tanya "Ruth" Penland

Tanya "Ruth" Edwards Penland, 77, passed away Saturday, January 10, 2015 at John F. Keever Hospice Solace Center. Mrs. Penland was born in Buncombe County to the late Ralph Edwards and Gladys Lee Edwards Hall. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Penland; her parents, Jack P. Hall and Gladys Lee Edwards Hall and her brother, Billy Ray Edwards. Ruth was a member of Calvary Free Will Baptist Church in Swannanoa and was a dear mom to her four sons. She is survived by her sons, Dean Penland (Melissa), David Penland (Darlene), Aaron Penland (Teresa) and Erik Penland (Tracie) and six grandchildren, Faith Nolan, Caleb Ross Penland, Mason Penland, Caleb Sutton Penland, Ryan Landon and Ayden Penland. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian in Arden with Reverend's Larry Collins and Frank Cantrell officiating. Burial will follow at Penland Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-7:30 PM, Monday, January 12 at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian in Arden. A meal will be served after the funeral on Tuesday by Swannanoa Freewill Baptist Church at the Cane Creek Community Center.
