Thelma Jackson Godfrey, 78, of 640 Reeves Cove Road, Candler, died Wednesday, February 10, 1999, at Pisgah Manor Nursing Home.

A native of Buncombe County, she was a daughter of the late Major and Pearl Cook Jackson.  She was retired from American Enka and a member of Foster Memorial Seventh Day Adventist Church.

She is survived by her husband, James F. Godfrey, Sr., two daughters, Arla Jean Burchfield and Aleta Kay White;  three sons, James F. Godfrey, Jr., Jerry Scott Godfrey, and Jeffrey Godfrey;  six sisters, Christine Eugenedes, Lois Godfrey, Frances Boone, Ruth Brooks, Juanita Miller, and Jenny Lee Lawing;  a brother, Ben Jackson, and eleven grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 5:00pm Friday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue with Pastors Greg Taylor and David Banks officiating.

Her family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service and request that memorials be made to Worthy Students Fund, Foster Memorial SDA Church, 375 Hendersonville Road, Asheville, NC 28803.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to the staff at Pisgah Manor Nrsing Home for their loving care during her stay.
