Thelma Phillps

Thelma Atkins Phillips, 79, of Asheville, died Wednesday, December 15, 1999, in the Brian Center, Weaverville.
Mrs. Phillips was born in Polk County and was married to Steedly Phillps, who died in 1963. She was also preceded in death two sons, Jimmie Phillps formerly of
Spartanburg and Vernon Phillips, formerly of Mayo, SC. She was retired from Whitney Yarn Mills and was a member of the Haw Creek Lions Club and the Beaumont Baptist Church in Spartanburg.
Surviving are four daughters, Margaret Vincil of Asheville, Lucille Jones of
Spartanburg, Viola Darby of Boiling Springs and Martha Butler of Woodruff, SC; a son, Jerry Phillips of Asheville; a brother, Leroy Atkins of Tennessee; nineteen grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm Saturday at Beaumont Baptist Church in Spartanburg with the Rev. John Coxe officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Cemetery.
Her family will receive friends from 7 - 8:30 pm Friday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue where Mrs. Phillips will remain until being placed in the church 30
minutes prior to the service.
