Thelma Ramsey Lance

Thelma Ramsey Lance, 99, of Matthews, NC, died Wednesday, November 29, 2006, at Carrington Place Nursing Home in Matthews. A native of Madison County, she was the daughter of the late Franklin David and Elizabeth Jane Dockery Ramsey. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Roy Henry Lance, Sr., who died in 1976. Mrs. Lance retired as a telephone operator for Southern Railway, and was a member of West Asheville Baptist Church. Survivors include her son, Roy Henry Lance, Jr., and wife Pat, of Panama City Beach, FL; her daughter, Judy Smith and husband Charles, of Charlotte; grandchildren, Karen Crouse and husband Wally of Candler, Susan Fisher and husband Trigger of Fletcher, Charles W. Smith, III, and wife Pam, of Charlotte, and Michele Smith Lane and husband Mac, of High Point; five great-grandchildren, Jerry Palmer of Roanoke, VA, Carson, Cannon and Anna Lane of High Point and Zoe Fisher of Fletcher; two special nieces, Mary Sevier Carson and Jan Sevier Lewis of Matthews. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Saturday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Reverend David Tucker officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Her family will receive friends from 10:30-11:00 am Saturday at the funeral home prior to the service.
