Thomas Benjamin “Tommy” Marlow, 88, of 748 Morgan Hill Road, Fairview, died Thursday, January 19, 2006, at the Oaks of Sweeten Creek following an extended illness. A native of McDowell County, he was a son of the late James and Eliza Garrison Marlow. He was also preceded in death by a son, Roy Wayne Marlow, an infant son, five sisters and two brothers. A retired farmer and apple grower, he was a lifelong member of Nesbitt’s Chapel United Methodist Church. Mr. Marlow is survived by his wife of 68 years, Edith Nesbitt Marlow; two daughters, Carolyn Waddell and husband Bill of Prospect, KY, Ann Horne of Arden; a son, Richard Marlowe and his wife Rosemary of Lenoir; four grandchildren, Brian Marlowe and wife Jamie of Winston Salem, Lorrie Greene and husband Jim of Raleigh, Toni Shope of Charlotte and Shannon Shope of Sylva; three great-grandchildren, Jake and Emily Marlowe and Matthew Thomas Greene. Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm Sunday at Nesbitt’s Chapel UMC with the Revs. Phillip Williams and Robert M. Harris officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. His family will receive friends from 7:00-8:30 pm Saturday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Mountain Area Hospice, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813 or to one’s favorite charity.
