Thomas Dewey Israel, 76, passed away Sunday, October 18, 2020 at Pardee Hospital due to complications from Covid-19.

Mr. Israel was born in Buncombe County to the late Tommie and Edna Praytor Israel. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Fred Israel.

Thomas was a 1962 graduate of Valley Springs High School. He went on to graduate from A-B Tech and was plant manager at Asheville Metal Finishing. He was a member of the Biltmore Masonic Lodge #446 since February 22, 1972 where he served as Master in 1981, certified Lecturer for 40 years, and currently serving as the Lodge Trustee.

Thomas is survived by his wife of 57 years, Terri Creasman Israel; two sons, Todd Israel (Jennifer) and Thad Israel; two daughters, Tricia Israel and Tandy Israel Cannon (Tommy); seven brothers and sisters, Lois Hudson, Jerome Israel, Roy Israel, Nancy Jervis, Jerry Israel, Linda Calloway, and Ronnie Israel, and nine grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 22, 2020 at 1:00 PM at Boiling Springs Baptist Church officiated by Pastor Phillip Luther. Burial will follow at Shepherd Memorial Park with graveside rites performed by the Biltmore Masonic Lodge # 446. Due to Covid-19, please consider watching the funeral service at boilingspringsbaptistchurch.com.

Thomas will lie in repose at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian on Wednesday, October 21, 2020 from 12:00 to 5:00 pm. The family will not be present but all are welcome to stop and pay their respects.

  1. Todd and Thad, please know that I truly enjoyed my interactions with your Dad. He was always excited to share his knowledge of plating with me, which helped me stay in compliance with my customers requirements. Most importantly, he always greeted me with a smile and gratitude for service. I am so honored and grateful to have know Tom.

  18. I loved Tom. We shared many lunches and laughs when I was at Hoke Inc.. Doing business with Tom and Todd at Asheville Metal Finishing was easy and they would do anything to please. It has been several years since I had seen Tom but still considered him a friend. I know that his family will miss him.

  38. Mr. Israel treated everyone with dignity & respect. He was a mentor to young men that he watched as they grew up, often reaching out to them. This challenging world could have learned a lot from Mr. Israel & needs more honorable men as he was & by how he lived his daily life as a loving family man & community member.     We were so sadden to hear about the passing of your Dad. It was such a pleasure to see him when I came to Asheville Metal from the Eaton facility. Tom always treated me very special and like one of the family. He also treated me with the upmost respect and I am so glad I visited Asheville Metal before I retired in June. He always greeted me with a hand shake and a big smile. I will cherish our great conversations and the many laughs we shared. Todd, I know you and your family will miss your Dad. There was no one like Tom and he will truly be missed. You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.
