  8. Lois,

My thoughts are with you and your family, if there is anything we can do to help let us know. I keep going to our last conversation with Tom after we finished the ride Tuesday and how happy he was, despite our rough start in the rain on Sunday, and how he was looking forward to finishing the ride and the century.

He was such a pleasure to ride and talk with.

  9. I’ve come to know Tom over the past few years as a man filled with joy, laughter and always a positive attitude. We shared the love of cycling and were both Michigan natives. No matter the difficulty of the ride or the weather conditions, Tom could always be heard chatting, laughing and filling those around him with smiles and encouragement. As anyone who has come to know him, he will be dearly missed. Our most sincere condolences to you and your family.

  10. Dear Lois: we are in a state of shock this morning. Please accept condolences from Lee and I. We have a lot of wonderful memories of Tom. Please know you are in our thoughts today.

  11. Lois and family . . . I too, like so many others, was very fortunate to know and ride with Tom. Although, rather brief encounters on and off the bike, Tom always made me feel like we had known each other much longer. One of my fondest memories, actually is the two of you, Lois, at the BRBC holiday meeting and party last December . .. .when you both, dressed in full ‘elf regalia’ deemed yourselves the ‘host and hostess’ of the party making everyone welcome. That was a true reflection of Tom’s (and your) ‘joie de vivre’. Thank you for sharing your dear Tom with all of us in the cycling community . . . While he will be sorely missed by so many, we can all rejoice that our lives were made a little richer and more joyful having Tom (and you) in it. Lois, as you and your family grieve Tom’s passing, I hope you will find comfort in all the ways Tom brought joy and laughter to so many. Prayers of thanksgiving and peace to you and your family.

  12. As one who suffered a very tragic loss 18 months ago I fully appreciate the overwhelming grief you are experiencing. Tom was a great person and a real tribute to the cycling community. He will be missed.

  13. Lois, despite the short amount of time I knew Tom, he was one of those people who you felt like you knew forever. He welcomed me as a fellow military veteran, retiree, Midwesterner, and cyclist to the Asheville area with enthusiasm. Several times he stayed with me during rides so I wouldn’t get lost! He was so much fun to be around. Know that he had such a tremendous impact on people, even those he only just met, and made the cycling world, and the world in general, a better place. Thank you for sharing him with us.

  14. Lois and family, may God comfort you in your time of loss. I knew Tom for a few short years, but it felt like dozens. To know Tom was to be his friend. He was such fun to be around, and truly compassionate soul. Tom was a good man.

  15. Tom was so full of good energy and was so life affirming. The world is a sadder place without him. I’ll miss him. So sorry for your loss.

  16. Dear Lois,

  18. Lois, our hearts are with you and the family today, dear friend. It is hard to believe that he is gone even though I know he is by our sides in spirit… God gave us a gift with Tom and everyone who knows him knows this. His generosity and love touched us all and his smile contagious! We will always miss him and pray that God is holding him in peace today as we send our hearts out to him. Love you so very much Lois <3 You were a lucky lady to be his wife and he was a lucky man to have you.
