Sergeant Garrison was born on Eight Oaks Plantation in Georgetown County, SC on November 27, 1930. He enlisted in the South Carolina National Guard at the age of 16. At age 18 he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served in Japan, Korea, Germany, Taiwan and Turkey; and was a Korean War veteran. He retired after 22 years of service. He was an inactive member of Sun Lodge #6. He was 32nd Degree Mason and a proud member of Emma United Methodist Church, where he served many years on the board of trustees. He was the son of Robert D. Garrison and Sadie Wyndham Garrison of Georgetown, SC. He was also preceded in death by brothers Carlisle and Ted Garrison, sister, Nell Garrison Doyle, grandson, Paul T. Russell; and son-in-law, Francis Russell. He is survived by his wife, Betty Williams Garrison; brothers William H. Garrison (Hazel), Robert D. Garrison, Jr. (Sue), David B. Garrison (Diana); sisters, Susan Runey (Harry); daughters, Karen G. Russell and Teresa G. Eubanks; son, Thomas M. Garrison II (Carol); five grandchildren, Julie Hodler (Scott), Lynne Russell, Andrew Eubanks (Samantha), Brian Garrison and Matthew Garrison; and great-grandchildren, Alexander Russell, Dakota Hodler, Hayden Hodler, and Avery Garrison. Funeral services for Mr. Garrison will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, February 5, 2018 in the Patton Ave. chapel of Groce Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at 12:00 p.m. on Monday at the Western Carolina State Veteran's Cemetery in Black Mountain.

  3. Mr. Garrison will be sorely missed. He was one of the sweetest gentleman I have ever met. When he visited our office he brought smiles and hugs to all of us and always brightened our day Our prayers are with the family as we all mourn his passing.
