Van William Sharpe

Van William Sharpe, 78, of Candler, died on Wednesday, July 25, 2018.
A Buncombe Co. native, Van was a son of the late Ralph and Ora O’Kelley Sharpe. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Betty Leatherwood Sharpe; daughter, Martha Kay Sharpe; and brothers, Vernon Lee Sharpe, Sr., Vinson Benjamin Sharpe, and Virgil Ray Sharpe.
Mr. Sharpe was a logger for many years at Suddreth Logging. He truly loved the outdoors and spent as much time as he could sitting on his porch, gardening, and hunting. He also appreciated any chore that ended with him riding a tractor. He'll also be remembered as a patient man and an animal lover.
Mr. Sharpe is survived by his daughters, Deborah Beck and husband David and Donna Sharpe; grandchildren, Danny Beck (Felicia) and Colton Sharpe (Jasmine); and great-grandchildren, Hailey, Bailey, Sawyer, and Sadie Mae.
His family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday evening at the funeral home.
The funeral service for Mr. Sharpe will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the Groce Funeral Home chapel on Patton Ave. with Pastor Jeff Massey officiating. Interment will follow at Stoney Fork Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, Candler.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Stoney Fork Missionary Baptist Church, P.O. Box 942, Candler, NC 28715.
Mr. Sharpe's family would like to express their gratitude for the care and compassion shown to him by the staff of Pisgah Manor Health Care Center, where Mr. Sharpe resided for the past two years.
