Velma Dalton Stanley

Velma Dalton Stanley, 84, of Newberry SC, died Saturday, May 26, 2012. A former resident of Fairview NC, Mrs. Stanley was born in Buncombe County. She was a daughter of the late Garfield David Dalton and Lillian Reed Dalton Williams. She was married to Fred O. Stanley of Enka NC, who died in 1979. She was also predeceased by a sister (Parilee Austin) and two brothers (Burlon and Grover Dalton). Mrs. Stanley was retired from the IRS and was a member of Clairmont Baptist Church in Atlanta, GA. Her favorite pastime was the company of her grandchild and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed growing orchids and was a great fan of gospel music. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Rita and Hal Bowles of Newberry, SC, a granddaughter, Kelly Purini and husband, Dan; two great-grandchildren, Caleb and Joshua Purini. She also leaves several nieces and nephews both in NC, SC and AL. Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home, with the Rev. Don Welborn officiating. Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Mausoleum. The family will receive friends thirty minutes prior to the service.
