Mrs. Verlyn F. Powell, 88, of Gainesville, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2014, surrounded by family and her dog "Scooter". Mrs. Powell was born in Erwin, TN on April 5, 1926. Verlyn moved to Miami, FL as a teenager with her parents and younger sister. She eventually married her husband of 50 plus years, Charles Powell and raised her daughter Sharyn. Verlyn worked as a manager of Sears Roebuck in Coral Gables, where she retired after 30 years of service. Mrs. Powell's earlier retirement years were spent with her husband Chuck in their mountain home near Asheville. She moved to Gainesville in 1999. Verlyn is survived by her nephew Skip Walker of Gainesville and her nieces Kim Walker and Penny Chandler. She was preceded in death by her husband Chuck and daughter Sharyn. Verlyn will be buried beside her family in beautiful Cane Creek Cemetery at 11 am Thursday, November 20. Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is assisting the family.

  2. I am so very sorry for your loss Mrs Powell was a very dear friend to me and many others who worked with her at Sears . I personally learned my best worth ethnic s from her .
