Wade L. Whitaker

wade whitaker
Asheville - Wade Lamar Whitaker, 49, of 415 School Road, died at home Tuesday morning, July 31, 2001.

A lifelong resident of Asheville, he is survived by and cherished eternally by his wife of 28 years, Debbie West Whitaker; his pal and only son, Lamar Glenn Whitaker of the home, who affectionately called his dad, “Papa Puddin”; his mother, Bettye Hill Whitaker; three brothers, Steve and his wife Sharon, Roger, Jeff and his wife Tina; two sisters, Linda Garrison and her husband Dewey, and Tara Whitaker; 12 nieces and nephews and millions of friends. He was preceded in death in 1978 by his father, Arthur R. Whitaker.

Wade was a very faithful and hardworking individual who was dedicated to his employer for 28 years, driving a truck, delivering home heating oil and gasoline. He was loved by all his customers as well as his co-workers. An avid Braves baseball fan, and a die-hard Dale Jarrett fan, he loved people and life. If you didn’t know him, I am sorry because this world will never see another one like him. Now he is resting in God’s care until we are reunited again for eternity.

Services will be held at 11 am Thursday in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian conducted by the Revs. Eddie DeBruhl and Bill LaMore. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 pm Wednesday at the funeral home on Long Shoals Road.

  10. A Loving Tribute to Wade
    Wade = Love
    Wade = Strength
    Wade was a faithful & loving husband to Debbie ..Childhood sweethearts who grew up in ‘The Village’? as next door neighbors and remained side by side for 28 wonderful years…His love was strong, matched only by hers. They shared a love that few have ever known, as evidenced by the way that Debbie was at his side since he became ill.

    Wade was a wonderful and caring father to Lamar’?First he taught him how to ride a bike, then he taught him how to not only drive a car, but how to work on it and to take care of it. There were many nights that dad and son worked side by side in the basement on Lamar’s vehicles. He always showed Lamar how important love was and what was really important in life. There was never any doubt that Lamar and Debbie were the two most important things in Wade’s life.

    He was an awesome brother who was more than just a sibling..He was a gentle and loving ‘best friend’? to his 3 brothers Steve, Roger, & Jeff and his 2 sisters, Linda and Tara..He was a stable ‘rock’? who was always there in our time of need. He was a ‘second dad’? to his nieces & nephews, Tracey, Brooke, Breanna, Sarah, Brianna, Scott, David, Shawn, Shay, Justus, and great-nephew, Tyler. Always caring and loving these children whenever they were near him.

    He was a wonderful and loving son to his mother, Bettye’?Always helping her based on his father’s last wishes. Always doing small repairs around the house or just sharing love. Wade always had a special place in his father’s heart.’?His father, Arthur, taught him the same things that Wade taught Lamar. Wade was always there with his dad working side by side. Wade taught us how to express feelings’?how to love, how to care, how to be honest and always to remember that family was your most precious possession. He touched everyone that he met because he was honest and sincere.

    Even though he is gone, he will never be forgotten’?Wade’s love and sincerity flowed through our lives like a strong, yet silent river. His memory is etched in our hearts forever. We will remember all the good times because that was what made Wade the beautiful person that he was. Now he is resting in God’s care until we are reunited again for eternity !
    WE LOVE YOU WADE

  11. Sitting here thinking about you Uncle Wade….it is hard to believe tomorrow will be 12 years that you left us….I love you and miss you so much…
