Wayne Mitchell Plemmons of Asheville, died Sunday, July 3, 2005, at the Rickman Nursing Center. Mr. Plemmons was born June 13, 1915, in Macon County to the late A.E. and Clorah Spivey Plemmons. He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. His family moved to Leicester when he was a child. He was a sheet metal mechanic and in retirement taught classes at A-B Tech. He was a member and deacon at West Asheville Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife Mary Battle Plemmons; two daughters, Elizabeth Clorah Poteat and her husband Eugene of Pittsburgh, PA and Nancy Galyean of Spartanburg, SC; five grandchildren, Deanna Poteat and David Poteat of Pittsburgh, PA, Melissa Poteat Hupp and her husband Don of Austin, TX, James Galyean and his wife Jenna of Falls Church, VA, and Julie Anne Galyean of Spartanburg, SC; and two great-grandchildren, Donovan Elliot Hupp of Austin and James Mitchell Galyean of Falls Church. A funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. James H. Johnson and the Revs. Tony Hooper and David Tucker officiating. Burial will be at Pisgah View Memorial Park. His family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service and request that memorials be made to the West Asheville Baptist Church Building Fund, 926 Haywood Road, Asheville, NC 28806.
