Welzie Carr Stewart

Welzie Carr Stewart, 96, of 455 Cowan Cove Road, Asheville, died Monday, January 17, 2005, at her home. Mrs. Stewart was born in Buncombe County and was a daughter of the late Sam B. and Nora Pounders Carr. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James Walter Stewart in 1975 and by sons James and Kenneth Stewart. She was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Penrose, NC. Surviving are three daughters, Dortha Dockery and Frances Ballew of Asheville and Wilma Hollifield of Weaverville; three sons, Charles and Clarence Stewart of Asheville and Frank Stewart of Candler; one sister Macey Mintz of Asheville; one brother Cline Carr of Asheville; thirty-seven grandchildren and a number of great and great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Revs. Ray Wynes and Terry Sprouse officiating. Burial will be at Pisgah View Memorial Park. Her family will receive friends from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
