William “Bill” B. Moore, 75, of Fletcher, died Wednesday, June 16, 2020 at Mission Hospital, Asheville.
Born in Fletcher, he was the devoted husband of Geneva (Moss) Moore of Fletcher, and the son of the late Leonard and Ann (Pressley) Moore.
Bill devoted nearly his entire adult life to serving the people of the Town of Fletcher and Henderson County. Beginning as a founding member of the Fletcher Parks and Recreation Department, Bill was instrumental in the incorporation and advancement of the Town. Bill was first elected to Town Council in 1995, served on numerous committees and campaigns, and was later elected Mayor in 1999. For 22 years, Bill diligently and tirelessly served the Town of Fletcher, advocating for its growth and advancement and championing the Town’s parks and recreation mission. Upon his retirement, the Town renamed the Bill Moore Community Park in his honor, ensuring that his legacy continues for generations to come.
Outside of his service to the Town of Fletcher, Bill was a licensed barber and co-owner of Service Barber Shop in Fletcher. He later sold cars at the Fletcher Motor Company for over 30 years.
A lover of people, Bill made friends everywhere he went, often running into old acquaintances many miles away during his travels. He was a devoted sports fan and former baseball player, and he took joy in mentoring young people as a coach and later enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports.
In addition to his beloved wife of 55 years, he is survived by a daughter, Sherry Higgins of Arden; a son, Keith Moore (Kelly) of Lexington, SC; 4 grandchildren: Tyler and Nathaniel Higgins, Chandler Frick, and Brayden Moore; 2 brothers: Wallace (Joyce) and Gary (Sheila) Moore; and 3 sisters: Doris Hawkins (Grady), Deloris Wright (Harold), and Nancy Johnston (Billy); and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, June 19, 2020 at Patty’s Chapel Cemetery, Fletcher. Bill will lie in state at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian from 12:00 PM Thursday until 10:00 AM Friday where all are invited to view and sign his register book. Face coverings are encouraged at the cemetery and required at the funeral home.

When we moved our business from Asheville to Fletcher in 2002 Mayor Bill Moore was one of the first people to stop by and welcome us to town. He was always kind, considerate, and passionate about growing Fletcher, as he said, “the right way”. Thank you for your dedication to your community. You will be missed.
We are so sorry for your loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.
With much love to you all.
We love you all so very much and you are in our prayers during this sad time
We love you all very much and you are in our prayers.
Geneva, Sherry, and family, you are in our prayers. Bill was such a great guy and we always enjoyed being around him and appreciate all he did for the town of Fletcher. Love and hugs, Leslie and Ed
Our thoughts and prayers are with all Bill’s family. Bill and I were friends for many years. we both worked with the youth with Fletcher Rec. There was a young boy who played outfield, and didn’t know which base to throw the ball to. Bill told him to just throw it to home plate, because they are all headed home. Tuesday I believe Bill crossed home plate! Job well done, brother.

The Leadership team at Capital Senior Living and The Waterford at Columbia send our heartfelt condolences to you all. Our prayer is that in the fullness of time, your grief and sorrow will ease and soon give way to the many joyous memories of Mr. Moore that you hold dear in your heart. May God’s love sustain and uplift you all in your time of loss.
Jim and I got to know Bill when his brother married into our family. Different ones would get together and play cards and how much fun they would have. Bill would call me when he worked at Fletcher Motors and said I think I have a car for you needless to say when we left there we had a car, he was a true salesman and we considered him and Geneva our friends. Moore family we love you all and are so sorry for your loss, he will be greatly missed by all that knew him.
We are so sorry about your loss. You and Bill have been wonderful neighbors for many years to not only myself but my grandparents. As you know, I’ve known your family since I was just a little boy playing baseball against Fletcher Motors but Bill was always so gracious to love on all the kids. My family will certainly miss him greatly and it is our sincere prayer that you may find comfort in knowing that he and your entire family have touched so many lives. May God hold you each in His hands and offer you all prayerful comfort. Our love goes out to each of you.
Mrs. Moore and Family,
I have great memories of Bill. Bill and family were neighbors of my grandparents for years, Lula and Perry Garren. He cut my hair when I was in elementary school. He was my father’s barber as well, Donald Pittillo.
Thinking of you.
Our sincere condolences for a beloved cousin. Praying for the families comfort.

Prayers to the Moore family from the Tatham family. Bill was a good, honest and fair man. When we were shopping for a vehicle. Bill would just show up at our home with a vehicle and say “here are the keys, I’ll be back in a few days.” He could be trusted and he trusted others. It was an honor to know Bill, he will truly be missed in the community and by his family.
I am so sorry our condolences for the loss of Bill!! Our thoughts and prayers go out to Geneva and Sherry and Keith and the rest of the family!!!! 🙏🙏🙏

My heart aches for all of this sweet family. This world was certainly blessed by the life of Bill Moore. As a coworker at Fletcher Motor, Bill was always a pleasure to be around making me laugh until I cried. Such fond memories of also him playing the guitar at work and us singing an old hymn. . At my house we still say Bill Moore’s lines. Truly, my brother.
He went to school under my Grandmother.
He cut my Grandfathers hair, He cut my Daddy’s hair, He cut my brothers hair, he cut my hair.
Sold my family cars for many years, sold me my first car in 1976!
Did so many great things for Fletcher!!!
You will be missed Bill Moore!
Thank you for all that you did!
From the Baldwin Family,
Mickey
