William "Bill" Richard Matthews, Sr., 80, passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at his residence.
Mr. Matthews was born in Buncombe County to the late Otis Andrew Matthews and Effie Bishop Matthews. He was also preceded in death by a son, William Richard Matthews, Jr.
Bill worked for Cranston Print Works and retired with over 30 years service. He was a long time member of the Marion Moose Lodge and was of the Baptist Faith.
He is survived by his significant other, Ann McLaughlin; his three sons, David Matthews, Joseph Matthews, and Mark Matthews; one daughter, Cynthia Diana Mitchell; ten grandchildren, and long time special friends and family of Ann McLaughlin.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at 12:00 pm at Old Salem Cemetery in Fletcher with Pastor Lonnie Yarborough officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Four Seasons Hospice, 571 South Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC 28731.

Bill, you will be truly missed. I will never forget you and your golf cart with all the produce you would bring us. You were such a great friend.
Uncle Bill & Ann, we remember our first meeting at the Marion Moose Family Campground, you two road David & I around on your golf cart looking for a camp to buy. One of the best memories of first meetings we will every have. Nobody will ever replace that memory.
Going to lake was a highlight of our week as long as you two were there.
Wish we could have been with you & Bill more at the end of his days.
