William E. Bill Broome

William E. "Bill" Broome, Jr., 95, died Friday, January 31, 2014, at his home in West Asheville.
Mr. Broome was born in Asheville, and was a son of the late William E. Broome, Sr., and Cora Morgan Broome. He was a WWII veteran of the US Navy and was retired as Superintendent of Vehicle Maintenance with the US Postal Service. He was a member of West Asheville Baptist Church.
Mr. Broome was married for 72 years to Doris McGee "Dot" Broome, before her death June 23, 2012, and was also preceded in death by a sister, Rosa Zeigler.
He is survived by three sons, David E. Broome (Dolores), Donald M. Broome (Sharon), and Douglas W. Broome (Gerry); grandchildren, Michael Broome (Candy), Melinda Broome, Rodney Broome (Laura), Kristin Uhde (Jochen), and Meredith Broome; seven great-grandchildren, Jarrett and Cassada Broome, Kinsley, Carter and Claire Broome, and Sebastian and Genevieve Uhde; and sisters, Mary Blalock Wilson and Barbara Frazier.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Stan Welch officiating. Interment will follow at Green Hills Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Michael Broome, Rodney Broome, Jarrett Broome, Bruce McGee, Jimmy Blalock, and Allen Zeigler.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service.

My deepest sympathy to all of you in Bill’s home going/ What a reunion up there. In the days ahead, may each of you experience God’s love. I will hold you up in prayer.
Words cannot explain the gratitude and love I feel for having known Bill. I will miss our weekly visits enormously, but hopefully knowing that he is where he wants to be, in peace, will ease the sadness and pain of missing him. I’m keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers. Thank you for the gift of knowing him. He was very very proud of his family.
