William Frederick Boyle, Sr.

william boyle, sr.

William F. Boyle, Sr. of Weaverville, NC passed away on September 20, 2025 at the age of 81 after suffering a fall. He was born on November 3, 1943 in Portland, Maine. A native of Munjoy Hill often reminiscing about those early years on the “hill,” he was a son of the late James A. Boyle, Jr., and Madelyn Audette Grizzard.

William was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Cynthia; brother, Scott Grizzard; and grandson, Joshua William Putnam.

William was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was the loving husband of Charlene Langlois Boyle, the love of his life and best friend, with whom he would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on November 26, 2025.

William is survived by his wife, Charlene; his children: daughter, Cynthia Ann Putnam, her sons Jared Putnam, spouse Ashley, and their sons Cole and Wyatt, Jordan Putnam, spouse Rebecca, and their sons Isiah and Ezra; daughter Kelly Rader, husband Bradford and their children Dillan, Mathew, Daniel and Madison Rader, daughter Nicole Maclay, spouse AJ; son Jeffrey A. Boyle and his son Quentin Drake; and son William Frederick Boyle, Jr., spouse Lyndi, and their daughters Ella Boyle, Sarah Hill and spouse Spencer.

A man of many talents and passions, William founded and operated Wholesale Glass & Mirror in West Asheville, North Carolina. He took great pride in building a successful business that not only supported his family but also provided employment opportunities for others. In recent years, he passed on his legacy to his children Cynthia and Jeffrey, guiding them in the operation of the business. A hometown business that successfully thrives today.

William had a thirst for adventure and a keen eye for hidden treasures. He enjoyed gold panning and antique picking with his close friends, Pete Webbie and Edwin Light, with whom he shared a lifelong bond. William had a love for collecting baseball paraphernalia and was passionate about harnessing solar energy for a sustainable future.

He loved to perform magic tricks for his grandchildren, and his great-grandchildren who brought him much joy over the last years and still think gramps can produce quarters from his ears.

A kind-hearted and humble man, William had a soft spot for those in need. He was known to extend a helping hand to the disadvantaged, offering them opportunities to earn a few dollars and even inspiring some to start their own businesses.

In his youth, William served in the Navy from 1960 to 1964 and participated in the Cuban Missile Crisis aboard the USS Canisteo (A099), earning the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal for his service.

William’s legacy lives on through his family and the many lives he touched. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, William is survived by his sister, Karen Kelley spouse Edward & sons, brother, James A. Boyle, III, and his daughters and families, brother, Joseph l. Grizzard, Jr., and many other beloved nieces and nephews.

A man of integrity, generosity, and unwavering love, William F. Boyle, Sr. leaves behind a legacy of kindness and compassion that will be remembered for generations to come. May he rest in peace.
