William Glen Montgomery

William Glen Montgomery, 90, died Thursday, July 19, 2001, at his home in Arden. He was born March 16, 1911 in Cherokee County to the late William C. and Amanda L. Montgomery. He was a self employed builder and chicken farmer and a Navy veteran of World War II. He had lived in Buncombe County since 1930 and in Arden since 1960. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Hermon and Poley Montgomery and by two sisters, Mattie Stiles and Genoa Murphy. He is survived by his wife, Gladys Creasman Montgomery; two sisters, Myrtle M. Stiles and Geneva M. Travis, both of Candler; Dewayne Kent, a nephew whom he reared; a large number of other nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm Saturday, July 21, 2001 in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Revs. Roger N. Reardon and Cecil Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow at Pisgah View Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 pm Friday at the funeral home.
