William Hobart Dayton, Sr., 74, of 110 Charlotte Highway, Asheville, died Wednesday, April 7, 1999, in the VA Medical Center.

Mr. Dayton was born in Buncombe County and was a son of the late James E. and Olga Havener Dayton, Sr. He was a graduate of Lee H. Edwards High School and served in Italy in the Army during WW II. He was the owner of Asheville Bonding Company.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Hensley Dayton; a daughter, Jan Jaco of Summerton, SC; two sons, William H. 'Bill' Dayton, Jr. of Asheville and Rick Dayton of Hartsvilel, SC; a sister, Geraldine Dayton Rogers of Blowing Rock; four grandchildren, Alan, Catherine, Jennifer and David; three aunts, Flora Carter, Estelle Magdanz and Lucille Dayton; and two nieces, Pamela Morse and Robin Hodge.

Graveside sevrices will be at 2:00 pm Sunday at Pisgah View Memorial Park.

His family will receive friends from 7 - 8:30 pm Saturday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue and request that memorials be made to the American Heart Assn.
