Growing up with his grandparents, Bill enjoyed playing in the mountains, creeks and rivers. Bill attended Man High school where he met Lois “Curly” Harvey on a bet with his best friend on who would get a date first. Married in 1957, Bill and Lois began their story as “High School Sweethearts.”

Moving to Mt. Clemens, Michigan, and starting a family, Bill worked as Foreman in machine manufacturing for Jared Industries. While raising a family, in addition to his work, he loved being Boy Scout Leader and coaching little league baseball.

In 1973 Bill, Lois and the kids took a leap. Leaving the city behind they purchased a beautiful 80 acre farm in Bear Lake, Michigan. Still employed by Jared as Manufacturing Supervisor, Bill also added 50 head of cattle, 3500 chickens, horses and pigs to complete the farm, bringing the best of his country and city roots together. In 1978 Bill and Lois moved to Arden, NC. He retired as Plant Manager for Volvo Heavy Duty equipment division after 20 years. There Bill enjoyed his days feeding his deer which would visit every day, taking walks to his pond to feed his fish with Lois and his other best friend Duker.

Bill traveled the globe for business and throughout the years, Bill and his family enjoyed many summer vacations at Drummond Island, Michigan where he loved to fish and enjoy family and friends. In 1984 they found Lake Jocassee, in Salem, SC where Bill finally got his dream boat and continued to fish in the surroundings of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

  7. What a loss for our neighborhood! David and I often joked that we wanted to be like you when we grew up. Your energy and passion for everything you did were truly inspiring. I’ll miss our chats by the mailbox and seeing you out in your yard, always busy and full of energy. It didn’t take long to realize just how incredibly smart you were — someone we could all learn from. You will be deeply missed.
