Dear Susan, 12/6/03
My clearest memories of William are three:
1) What a gracious gentleman he was whenever I would say hello to him at the Family Health Center or elsewhere.
2) His limping around in the background at J and S as his assortment of employees served us our meal; he did a great job with all kinds of people….a class act.
3) How much he loved fishing; mention of that topic always brought a smile to his face. I’ll always respect him for breaking a few ribs on his last fishing trip only a few months before he died.
A true gentleman….who will be missed by all of us who were privileged to know him.
Sincerely,
Dave Mouw
Bill was one of the best fellows I ever met, well liked and respected by everyone. He will be missed by all that knew him.May the Lord be with you.
Our heartfelt sympathy and love to you,and Valerie. May you find peace and comfort in knowing that my Mom,and Brother are with you at this time, also. Mom has such fond memories of her visits with Bill at the S&W in Greensboro, during our UNC-G years! I have so many fond memories of so many special times with you and Bill. One of the most vivid was the visit with me(when I lived in that ‘dumpie’ flat in Albany,New York)! Know how much I care and the sorrow I feel at this time. With much love from Mary Bess,Bryson, and Polly Colville
You are in my thoughts and prayers.
I grew up with ‘Billy’, directly across the street from him, on Bickett Blvd in Raleigh. We spent many days, just he and I, playing football in my front yard. Also, we spent many summer days at Hayes Barton swimming pool just down the street from our houses. I lost contact with Billy after I graduated from college and went to live in Charlotte. The Throwers moved back to Laurinburg, so I was unable to find out where he was or what he was doing. He was a wonderful child-hood friend, and I have wondered many times where he had gone and what he had done. I remember Sis fairly well, but only have vague memories of Stewart and Marshall, as they were in grammar school. ‘Billy’ and I were the same age. My sincere condolences to you on the loss of your husband, and my childhood friend. I praise God for the forty years that you all had to gether.

Dearest Sis, Stewart, and Marshall,
John A and I are sorry to hear about ‘Billy’s’ passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of the Thrower family. May God bless you.

Susan,
We were shocked and saddened to hear of Bill’s passing. We had no idea he was ill and still do not know the nature of his illness. We knew he had foot problems. Perhaps, there was a problem from there. Had we found out prior to his funeral, we would certainly have attended.
Bill was just the dearest, nicest guy anyone would want to know. He was likeable from the moment one met him.
He was wonderful to work with us at the S&W Cafeterias for lo, these many years ago. He was more than an employee back then, a super friend, who remained the same after the closing of S&W.
You and Valerie are in our thoughts and prayers. May God bless and strengthen you each day through His love.
