William M. Gilbert, II Asheville – William Marshall Gilbert, II, 73, passed away on Wednesday, February 19, 2014. Bill was born in Durham and was a son of the late Dr. George G. Gilbert and Ann Finnegan Gilbert. He was a former employee of J. Crew, Guthy Renker and H & R Block. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Hobson Gilbert; two daughters, Brenna Braumeister and Kim Vincentson and a son, William M. "Mark" Gilbert, III; eight grandchildren and two brothers, Charles A. "Chuck" Gilbert and Darrell Sayles and his wife, Ann. Also surviving are two sisters in-law, Grace Hopwood and Mary Florence Benson. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday at Fletcher First Baptist Church conducted by Pastor Roy Waldroup. Interment will follow at Shepherd Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 until 7:30 pm Saturday at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian. (So That) in all things He (Jesus) might have the preeminence. Col. 1:18 cKJV. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to your local Hospice, the Gideon's, or to Fletcher First Baptist Church, Capitol Fund, PO Box 1658, Fletcher, NC 28732.

  1. My Condolences goes out to the Family!! I remember Bill from years ago when he worked with CPU/Guthy Renker. Bill was humorous, helpful and ALWAYS had a story to tell. Bill will truly be missed but never forgotten!!! RIP Bill…..

  3. My memories of Bill are of a smiling joking man. He was always kind and helpful and just fun to be around. I had the pleasure of working with him and Ruth at J. Crew. Then Bill and I worked together again at Guthy Renker. He was a light that will be missed by many. My condolences to Ruth and family.

  4. Bill was absolutely great! I remember calling in to CW/JCrew and begging for LOW days. He would always laugh at me but give in if he could! My sympathy to Ruth and all his family.

I know that Bill and I enjoyed the times we went gambling at Harrahs and getting lottery tickets out of state before they became legal here. Bill always had a kind word for everyone.
