William S. “Bill” Ruckman, Jr., 80, of 27 Morse Street, Asheville, died Monday, January 21, 2002, in an Asheville hospital.

Mr. Ruckman was born in Yancey County and was a son of the late William S. and Ruby Bennett Ruckman, Sr. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Rosalie O’Daniel Ruckman and by two brothers, Paul Ruckman and James Ruckman. He was owner of RBI Express, Inc. and co-owner of Ruckman Brothers Construction. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church and of the West Asheville Masonic Lodge No. 665.

Surviving are two daughters, Patricia Davis and her husband Rex of Candler and Lisa Foster and her husband David of Asheville; two grandsons, John Hendon and his wife Sondra of Easley, SC, and Ryan Foster of Asheville; a brother, Howard B. Ruckman and his wife Lucia of Leicester; two nieces, Tami Ruckman of Louisville, KY and Linda R. Stevens of Chicago, and a nephew, Kris Ruckman of Charlotte.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm Wednesday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Donald N. Welborn officiating. Burial will be at Pisgah View Memorial Park.

His family will receive friends from 7 - 8:30 pm Tuesday at the funeral home and at other times will be at the home of his daughter Lisa at 201 Friendly Circle.

The family requests that memorials in memory of his wife Rosalie be made to Mountain Area Hospice, PO Box 25388, Asheville, NC 28813.

  6. Lisa & Pat – I am so sorry that I have taken this long to get in touch with you. I just wanted to say that as a child, I loved Bill & Rosie as 2nd parents. Sometimes I needed a place to escape and I knew the door was always open. I am sure at times, I was a real pain, but I always felt welcomed. I love you both and would love to hear from you.
