Willie Mae Meadows Parham, 77, of 897 Fletcher
Martin Road, Alexander, died Monday, September 7,
1998, at the Hospice Solace Center following a period of declining health.

     Mrs. Parham was born May 24, 1921, in Greer, SC, and lived most of her life in Buncombe County.  She was a daughter of the late James Meadows and Josie Embler Meadows and was married to James C. “Soad” Parham, who died in 1954.  She was also predeceased by two grandsons, Ross Parham and Eric Parham.

     Willie was a graduate of French Broad High School and was a member of French Broad Baptist Church.

Her life was spent loving and nurturing her four children after the death of their father.  She was a homemaker who devoted her life to raising her family in a Christian home, unselfishly putting their needs ahead of her own.  She will be greatly missed by family and friends.

     She is survived by her daughter, Teresa and her husband Lee Bryson of Weaverville;  three sons, David Parham and his wife Rita of Pasadena, MD, James Parham and his wife Hattie Jo of Hendersonville, and Gary Parham of Hendersonville;  seven grandchildren, Valerie Fletcher, Clay Parham, Tanya Neely, Amy Johnson, Rob Bryson, Amber Parham, and Cassie Parham; five great grandchildren;  three sisters, Ruby Hawkins, Bernisa Hunter, Laverne Shelton, a brother, Bill Meadows, all of Alexander, and several nieces and nephews.

     Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Wednesday at
French Broad Baptist Church with the Revs. Charles
Magnet and Howard Self officiating.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.

     Her family will receive friends from 7 - 8:30 pm Tuesday at Groce Funeral Home and at other times will be at 897 Fletcher Martin Road.
