Asheville ~ Woodfin Paul Bagwell, 93, of Rock Hill Road Ext., died on Thursday, July 14, 2005 in the VA Medical Center.
A native of Henderson County, Mr. Bagwell was the last son of the late John and Ellen Garren Bagwell to pass away. In his younger days he liked to hunt and fish. He retired from the US Air Force with 22 years of service, after which he was recalled to serve during Vietnam War. He lived at Ft. Lee Washington and Germany during his time of service. Mr. Bagwell was also employed for 22 years with the civil service. Being a longtime member of the VFW in Hendersonville and American Legion in Homer, AK. In his later years he enjoyed traveling to other parts of the country and returning to Germany for Oktoberfest.
He is survived by his wife of 11 years, Mary Lou Brank Bagwell of Asheville; a daughter, Gail Justus and husband Harold of Hendersonville; step-daughter, Lorraine Newman and husband Robert of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; step-son, George Brank and wife Madelane of Brevard; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held 10:30 A.M. Monday in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian on Long Shoals Road with the Rev. Jack Plemmons officiating. Burial will follow at 12:00 noon in the Western Carolina State Veteran’s Cemetery with military honors being conducted by the Shaw Air Force Base Honor Guard. Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 – 8:30 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home.
