Arden ~ Zeke Baker, 83, of 574 Long Shoals Road, Arden, died on Thursday, May 19, 2005. He was born in Buncombe County and resided in the Avery’s Creek Community his entire life. He was the son of the late Melvin and Maggie Beachboard Baker. In 1982 he was preceded in death by his wife, Eva McMinn Baker. He also was preceded in death by two daughters, Jane and Carolyn, a son, Bill and a brother, Earl Baker. He retired from Cranston Print Works in 1983. His favorite hobby was his interest in honey bees for which he was a beekeeper for over seventy years. He is survived by his daughter, Betty Lois of Avery’s Creek; four sons, Bob Baker and his wife Sue of Asheville, David Baker of Swannanoa, Ron Baker and his wife Theresa of Leicester, Mike Baker and his wife Cheri of Avery’s Creek; and eleven grandchildren. Graveside services will be held Sunday 2:00 P.M. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery with Minister Jason Cole officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday from 7:00 – 8:30 P.M. at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian on Long Shoals Road. At other times, the family will be at 782 Pennsylvania Road in Avery’s Creek.
