Zola Mae Edwards Hawkins, 92, of Asheville, died Friday, February 25, 2005.
Mrs. Hawkins was born in Buncombe County and was a daughter of the late Fabe and Lelia Lawson Edwards. She was preceded in death by her husband, Denver C. Hawkins and by a grandson, Billy McDevitt. Mrs. Hawkins was retired from Burlington Industries and was a faithful member of Woodfin Baptist Church.
She is survived by four daughters, Glenda H. Sawyer of Weaverville, Shirley H. McDevitt and her husband Bill of Greensboro, Maxine H. Ammons and her husband Don of Birmingham, AL, and Jeanette H. Morgan of Candler; one son, Gary Hawkins and his wife Linda of Hickory; one brother Rev. Elmer Edwards and his wife Juda of Weaverville, six grandchildren, Pamela Fortner, Roger Morgan, Doug Morgan, Steve Ammons, Darrell Sawyer and Eric Hawkins, and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. Sunday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Revs. Larry Edwards and Mark Whitted officiating. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
Her family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
Flowers will be welcomed and appreciated or memorials may be made to Woodfin Baptist Church, 55 Elkwood Avenue, Asheville, NC
