I had no plans at all! From the first call to Dale Groce, letting him know of Jerry's passing, he was at Carepartners Solace in 20 mins. He was greeting everyone, and his compassionate nature was overflowing!! He said they would be there, no rush to plan, just to let him know when we were ready. That made the whole process for us to plan just open up. We met, planned as Dale's professionalism was evident from the start. He listened as we talked, taking notes, and asked us to tell him about Jerry. Dale Groce and his staff were Amazing!! They helped us turn a very sad situation into a wonderful celebration of Life. We are forever grateful for Groce Funeral Home. 10 isn't high enough!
I am John's youngest cousin on the Compton side -- my Dad Raymond and his mother Lola were brother and sister. When I was little, John and Becky lived in Annandale Virginia and went to our church. They didn't have children yet and I was able to spend time with them and their dog Fluffy and cat Velvet -- I have many wonderful memories of music, food, gardens, crafting, family and faith from those days. I also remember how happy they were when Debra and Barry joined their family. I still have Becky and John's Christmas letter from 2000 and consider it the best Christmas letter ever written. It was full of news of family medical issues, engagements, graduations, sewing, weddings, and even mentioned (several times) that John did the laundry. It was a hoot. The Compton family loved to get together and eat -- I fondly remember many family reunions and gatherings for Brunswick stew. Imagine our surprise when John (normally short haired and clean shaven) showed up at a family reunion with a white beard. Whenever I see David Letterman on TV today, I think of John and his retirement look. Free and last, free at last, thank God Almighty, John is free at last. Rest In Peace gentle giant. Becky and family -- you are in our thoughts and prayers.
