Asheville Butterfly TrailOpal Reed, 91, of Arden, died Sunday, August 4, 2019 at Universal Healthcare Center in Fletcher.
A native of McDowell County, she was a daughter of the late Michael and Esther Huntley Reed. She was also preceded in death by five sisters and two brothers.
Opal loved her family and is survived by one son, Bill Reed and his wife, Lynn; one granddaughter, Andrea Matthews; two great-grandsons, Garrett and Graham Matthews; one sister, June Freck; one brother, Arnold Reed, as well as several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 9, 2019 at Green Hills Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made in Opal’s name to First Baptist Spartanburg, 250 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29306.

I spoke with your brother Arnold this morning, and he told me that you and your son Billy had both passed.
Your sister, Pauline, and husband Jack both passed this same year too (2019) Pauline, on the day after her Birthday on March 5th, and Jack, on the 5th of July. i really do miss the family, and the many summer vacation trips to North Carolina.
I am so very sorry that i am so late, but family memories are forever.
