Sandra Goldstein Havey, 77, passed away Sunday, January 19, 2020.
Born in Philadelphia, PA, Sandy was the youngest daughter of the late Samuel and Ruth Goldstein. She was preceded in death by her brother, Arthur Goldstein.
Sandy grew up in North Philadelphia where she attended school. She was also a student at a Hebrew language school, as is customary for children of Jewish families in the US. She later enrolled in Temple University’s night school where she met her husband, Thomas John Havey.
In 1964, Sandy and Tom married and established their home in Mount Laurel, New Jersey. Throughout her life, Sandy devoted time by helping the elderly, teaching Sunday school, and raising her family. For several years, Sandy and Tom owned racehorses and enjoyed traveling to various venues wherever their horses competed.
For many years, Sandy and Tom were active members of the JayCees of Maple Shade, New Jersey, a community service club where they hosted multiple gatherings, extended hospitality, revamped the train station, repaired houses, and organized fundraisers. Sandy and Tom also enjoyed playing cards and socializing with friends.
Sandy worked at Wedgewood Farms in Burlington, New Jersey for 35 years. Wherever Sandy worked and lived, she valued genuine friendship and was energized from being with others. She exuded an outgoing, loving, and deeply compassionate spirit and loved to hear and tell good stories.
Taking walks in the sunshine, baking nutritious baked goods, and helping those less fortunate were part of her everyday life. Line dancing was a favorite hobby as well as spending time at the Jersey shore. Sandy loved traveling around the country in order to visit her children and grandchildren regularly. Sandy also loved her country and was a dedicated patriot of the United States.
While living in Philadelphia, Sandy was an active member of Calvary Chapel of Philadelphia. After moving to Asheville, North Carolina in 2018, Sandy intentionally invested her time at Biltmore Church: through a Connect group and a women’s Bible study. Sandy was also an active part of The Refuge House of Prayer. Her gift of building relationships and making people feel loved is evidenced in the numerous people surrounding her in Asheville.
Sandy is survived by two daughters, Pamela Havey Lau (Brad) of Newberg, Oregon, Rebecca McDowell (Steve) of Arden, North Carolina, and one son, Daniel Goldstein of Jerusalem, Israel as well as six grandchildren: Michaela Lau Semple (Joshua), Annalise Lau, Gabrielle Lau, Parker Pulliam, Ava Pulliam, and Max McDowell. She is also survived by a brother, Marvin Goldstein.
Sandy’s memorial service will be held at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian with family and friends on Monday, January 27, 2020 at 10 am and the family will receive friends at the funeral home immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, it was Sandy’s wish for others to offer forgiveness to others for any grievance, hurt, or betrayal.

Sandy was a special lady that I feel privileged to have know. She loved her family, her friends, her church and had a strong walk with the Lord. She has left an imprint on the hearts of those who knew her.
I met Sandy 25 years ago at a Western Line Dance club. I instantly felt drawn to her sweet personality that made it a pleasure to be with her. She was always there for me and I will miss her terribly.
I have only known Sandy for around a year and a half or so. She joined our Community Group from New Life Community Church. She brought a fresh perspective to our Bible study. In the beginning of Chapter 3 in Ecclesiastes (ESV), the title says “A Time For Everything.” In verse 1 it reads, “For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under Heaven:”….. Even though our small Group has only known Sandy for a short period of time, we are glad that it was our season to have a chance to meet her, grow with her, and pray with her. Until we meet again Sandy…..

Your mom was such a bright light and I am sorry that God took her so young from your life. She was so beautiful and I’m glad that I got to meet her and know her. We understand your grief and Will be there for you through this difficult time. May God give you the peace in knowing she’s OK and in a better place. You are a great daughter and should have no regrets. We will be there to lift you up on Monday.
I only knew Sandy for a year after meeting her at the YMCA and asking her to join our Bible study of Revelation each week. She became a good friend as we walked with her during her declining health. My husband preceded her entrance to heaven by two months so we prayed often for both him and Sandy to experience God’s presence and comfort as they waited for their angel escort. We know you’ll miss her, but our comfort lies in knowing we’ll see her again. May God’s peace wash over each of you.
