Alan H. Sorrells

A native of Buncombe County, he was the son of the late Virgil C. and Mary Hardin Sorrells and husband of the late Virginia Willis Sorrells, who died in 1992.
Mr. Sorrells was former co-owner of Dunham’s Sales and Service and was an active member of Reynolds Baptist Church, formerly serving as a deacon. He was a Marine Corps veteran of W.W. II, received the Purple Heart and served in the South Pacific and in battles for Iwo Jima and Saipan. He was a former special deputy with the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Department and was a founding member of the Reynolds Volunteer Fire Department.
He is survived by two sons and their wives, Gary and Christie Sorrells of Weaverville, Ted and Tina Sorrells of Roanoke, Va., three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 12 noon Saturday in the Reynolds Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Bobby Smith. Interment will follow in Gashes Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Kenneth McAbee, Mark Laughter, Vince Carter, Tim Bryson, Bud Sales and Jack Sorrells. Honorary pallbearers will be Albert, Ray, Jay, Morris and John Sorrells.
The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the church. Mr. Sorrells will remain at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian on Long Shoals Road until being placed in the church at 11 am Saturday.

I only found out about Alan’s passing in recent months. He and Mrs. Sorrells always made me feel welcome when I would come over and visit with Gary (we graduated together). I am very sorry about your loss. My deepest sympathy.
Well its been 8 yrs now, Alan is my papaw. I miss him dearly. I love you papaw. i know you are with meemaw and daddy!
