Arden ~ Alan Watkins Ashe, of 9 Pointview Court, Arden, died on Saturday, January 8, 2005 at his residence.
A native of Buncombe County, he was the son of the late James and Anne Winberry Ashe and was also preceded in death by his brother, James Ashe, Jr. Mr. Ashe was a 1949 graduate of Lee Edwards High School, where he excelled in basketball, football and baseball. He also played basketball for Asheville Biltmore College. He was owner of Ashe Accounting and more recently he was an avid fly fisherman and model shipbuilder. He was a member of St. Paul’s Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ruth Enloe Ashe; a daughter, Cynthia Elder of Arden; a son, Gary Alan Ashe and his wife Shannon of Arden; two brothers, Vance Ashe and his wife Barbara of Asheville and Rev. Donald Ashe and his wife Kate of Winston Salem.
Graveside services will be held 2:00 P.M. Wednesday at Green Hills Cemetery with the Rev. Donald Ashe, his brother officiating.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7-8:30 P.M. at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian on Long Shoals Road.

Happy memories of Alan as a classmate for many years are in my thoughts. I join the LEHS Class of ’49 in sadness over his passing. My sympathy to Don and Kate and all of the family members.
My thoughts and prayers go to your family. I fondly remember our good times with Alan and his brothers as a member of the Class of ’49 at Lee Edwards.

My memories of Alan are absolutely wonderful….an outstanding boy who did indeed become an outstanding man. We were classmates at Lee Edwards, and I am happy to say we were good friends.
