Arden ~ Alan Watkins Ashe, of 9 Pointview Court, Arden, died on Saturday, January 8, 2005 at his residence. A native of Buncombe County, he was the son of the late James and Anne Winberry Ashe and was also preceded in death by his brother, James Ashe, Jr. Mr. Ashe was a 1949 graduate of Lee Edwards High School, where he excelled in basketball, football and baseball. He also played basketball for Asheville Biltmore College. He was owner of Ashe Accounting and more recently he was an avid fly fisherman and model shipbuilder. He was a member of St. Paul’s Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ruth Enloe Ashe; a daughter, Cynthia Elder of Arden; a son, Gary Alan Ashe and his wife Shannon of Arden; two brothers, Vance Ashe and his wife Barbara of Asheville and Rev. Donald Ashe and his wife Kate of Winston Salem. Graveside services will be held 2:00 P.M. Wednesday at Green Hills Cemetery with the Rev. Donald Ashe, his brother officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7-8:30 P.M. at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian on Long Shoals Road.
