Albert 'AL' Brown
July 16, 1928 ~ November 7, 1999
Richard Albert 'Al' Brown, 71, of 24 Snelson Dr., Asheville, died Sunday, November 7, 1999 at Hospice Solace Center.
A native of Swain County, he was a son of the late W. Crawford and Rhoda Middleton Brown. He was a veteran in the US Air Force and a retired from the US Postal Service, employed as a carrier and vehicle maintenance with 30 years service.
Mr. Brown was a member of Grace Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Frances Wright Brown; two sons, Gary Brown and his wife Lynn of Conway, NC, Alan Brown and his wife Sharon of Bryson City; a step-daughter, Catherine Brown Cruz and her husband Tony of Watertown, NY; a step-son, Danny Brown and his wife Dawn of Barnardsville; two sisters, Mae Evans of Maryville, TN, Mildred,and her husband Ray Gibby of Bryson City; a brother, Gene Brown and wife Nina of Bryson City; three
grandchildren, nine step-grandchildren, one step-great-grandchild and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Wednesday in the Patton Avenue Chapel of Groce Funeral Home with
Reverend Dr. Derrill Smith and Reverend Steve Harris officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hills Cemetery with pallbearers being Richard Cowan, Max Plemmons, Vernon Rhodes, Dan Seay, Mike
Large, Bill Broome and Ivan Sams.
His family will receive friends 7- 8:30 pm Tuesday at the funeral home.
