Albert G. Morgan
July 23, 1935 ~ June 21, 2024
Born in:
Buncombe Co., NC
Resided in:
Candler, NC
Albert passed away peacefully June 21st, 2024. A Candler native, Albert was the son of Avery Morgan and Genell Parks Morgan. He was also preceded in death by his son, Roger Grant Morgan (June 6th, 2017).
Albert served his country in the US Army from 1955 through 1957 with the highest security clearance in the military police. He studied in Barber School after completion of his military service. He became the owner and operator of Hominy Barber Shop and Vice President of the Barber’s Association. Albert developed a passion for real estate and also flying. He opened Discount Shoes in 1978 and later opened Country Casuals.
Albert had a sense of humor and often said, “I began at the head and stopped at the foot.” Albert was a modest philanthropist, giving to St. Jude, Shriner’s and many causes in the WNC community. Albert never met a stranger and kept the Farmer’s Market “in business” with daily trips to purchase food, which he gave freely to many in the local community.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Beasley Morgan; daughter, Pam Fortner (Boyce); son, Doug Morgan (Teresa); sister, Judy M. Brigman; brothers, Bruce Morgan (Margaret) and Clyde Morgan (Pat); daughter-in-law, Christine Morgan; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

We are very sorry to hear of the passing of your husband. Our prayers are with you and your family during
your loss and sorrow.
I am very sorry to hear of Alberts passing and want to express my condolences to his family. He cut my hair from the time I was so little that I had to sit on a board he’d put across the arms of his Barber chair, until I was 18 or 19 when he opened Discount Shoes. When I was around 12, he told me I was a big enough boy now that he’d better stop giving me a lollipop after he cut my hair so he wouldn’t make me fat! When he informed me at my last hair cut with him, that he was leaving for Discount Shoes, that it would be my last one with him, I must have had a look of fear on my face trying to process it. He reached in the drawer, pulled out a lollipop and handed it to me and shook my hand and told me it will be alright. I’ll never forget that as long as I live. R.I.P. Mr. Morgan
Pam,
I am so sorry to hear of your father’s passing. I remember what a kind and gracious man he was and I remember the bond you had with him. You are in my prayers.

Carolyn, so sorry for your loss. Praying for you and the family.
My deepest sympathy to the Morgan family. It had been several years since we had seen Albert. He was always friendly & talkative & was always the same every time we saw him. My mother was a cousin to Albert. She was the youngest child of a large family of Herbert Ingle & Gertrude Creasman who lived on Long Shoals Road. I know every time they saw each other, they would talk about the Morgans & Haywood county. Mama’s name was Ila Ingle Parham & she passed away in 2016 at the age of 90. She married Elmer Parham of Leicester & had two daughters, Shirley who passed away 12/2023 & me, Debbie. We used to buy our shoes at Discount Shoes until Mama & me inherited foot problems & had to have our shoes special made. I wanted to give my condolences to Albert’s family.
Carolyn, just heard of Albert’s passing from Aunt Frankie, I never knew Albert but I do know you and am very sorry for you and the family. My thoughts and prayers are with you in this difficult time.
Albert was the kindness, most considerate and generous man that I have ever had the honor of calling my dear friend. I will miss our frequent conversations. Albert touched the lives of and helped so many people. He will be dearly missed.

Carolyn, I’m thinking of you.
I’m sorry for the Family’s loss. Albert was a good man! He loved telling jokes and having good time. I worked for him for a few years and there was never a dull moment. He will surely be missed by a lot of people! My thoughts and prayers 🙏 are with the family. Until we meet again my friend, Love you and God’s speed!
Carolyn and the entire family which includes Discount Shoes and Country Casuals You are in my thoughts and prayers I will always consider it an honor to have worked for him for it truly was the first place where everyone treated each other as family Praying for Mr. Morgan’s family and extended family which was his employees
Well as most know this man has been part of my life for the most of my life. My barber, my friend, my employer. He always gave me a chance to answer his questions. I always knew he was the boss. A good boss he was. He gave me a job when i needed one and may not have needed me. He trusted me and gave me a chance. I did not want to give him up this soon. God has His own plans. Till we meet again my friend.
What a CHARACTER.
He always loved to come in and say hello when I was showing shoes.
Some jokes even though they were true, were questionable.
Always loved seeing him
Truly a legend.
Mr. Morgan gave me my first store bought haircut in the little building next to the Candler Supermarket! I pray the sweet Holy Spirit of God will comfort you dear family in the name of Jesus Christ the Lord. Amen.
I am shocked and dismayed to learn of Albert’s passing. He was such a precious and vital human being, and he will be hugely missed. God bless Albert and his family in the loss of him.
I just heard about Albert’s passing. Was saddened to hear of his passing. Albert and my stepfather (Howard Dorlan) were partners in crime growing up. Albert was such a kind man, whom loved to joke. He used to tell my younger sister he was going to cut her curly blonde hair. He knew she was shy, therefore loved joking with her.
Albert Morgan family hold onto the precious memories and know Albert made a huge impact on the community. He will truly be missed.
My condolences 🙏🏻
