Alene Reese Shroat, 79, of 40 Fairview St., Asheville, died Thursday, December 21, 2006, at the Oaks of Sweeten Creek.
A native of Asheville, Mrs. Shroat was a daughter of the late Solomon “Sol” Larkin and Mary McCullough Reese.
Mrs. Shroat worked in the payroll department at Appalachian Hall, and also worked for Braswell Scale & Equipment. She was a volunteer with ABCCM and was a member of Biltmore United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir for more than 40 years.
Surviving Mrs. Shroat are her husband of 59 years, Robert “Bob” A. Shroat, Jr.; two daughters, Susan Shroat Pike and her husband, Randall, of Candler, and Cynthia Shroat of Asheville; sister, Lucille Allen of Asheville; and three grandchildren, Jennifer Pike and her companion, Robin Ewart, Jonathan Pike, and Teresa Hanbach and her father, Phil Hanbach.
A funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Ashley Crowder Stanley officiating. Interment will follow in Green Hills Cemetery.
Her family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
