Alene Watson Furey, 90, passed away on Thursday, December 8, 2022, at Flesher’s Fairview Health and Retirement Center. She received excellent care and was loved by all the staff.

A native of Sampson County, NC, Alene was a daughter of the late James B. and Leila Hayes Watson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert John Furey, Sr.; sister, Lois Boone; brothers, Rivers and William Watson; and son-in-law, Gary Lowe.

She worked for many years with her husband at Furey Radiator Service. She was a member of Skyland First Baptist Church, Arden, NC.

She is survived by her daughters, Sylvia Refenes (Jim), Wendy Lowe, and Cindy Melton (Tommy); son, Kenneth Fussell (Julie); grandchildren, Amy, Lauren (Russell), Jonathan (Sharon), and Ben (Lindsay); great-grandchildren, Emma, Bella, Evelyn, Mia, Santi, Carter, Juliana, and Whitten; and sisters, Patricia Throckmorton (Keith) and Elizabeth Nelson.

A private service will be held at Green Hills Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, her family asks that memorial contributions be made to Flesher’s Rest Home, P.O. Box 1160, Fairview, NC 28730.

  1. Alene was a joy to visit. I always went away with a blessing. She love the Lord! We, her church family, will miss her but we will see her again at the heavenly homecoming! God bless her family!

  2. Alene was a precious lady. It was a blessing to have been able to get to know her and assist with her care. You all were blessed to have the honor to call her Mother. Hold on to the memories of this special lady until you meet her again in Heaven. Will be praying for you as you adjust to not having her here.

  4. Angela Bentley Dendy, Randy Hembree’s cousin and Pam’s long time friend. Had many enjoyable weekends at the Fureys. Beautiful old home. Zillion dollar view. Just think of the beauty in Aunt Alene’s new Heavenly home.
