Asheville - Alice Shepherd Sorrells, 81, of the Deerfield Retirement Community, died March 12, 2010. A native of Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of the late Myrtle Mowrer Shepherd and Edwin J. Shepherd. Alice grew up in Maryland, where she attended public schools and graduated from McKinley High School in Washington. After graduation from the University of Maryland, she began her career in merchandising at Woodward & Lothrop in Washington, where she served as a buyer until 1978, when she and her husband moved to Asheville. Alice was active in the Beaver Dam Valley Home and Garden Club, serving as president from 1987 to 1989. She is survived by her husband, Theodore F. Sorrells; one brother, Edwin J. Shepherd of Silver Springs, MD; one sister, Edith S. Neece of Chapel Hill, NC, and five nieces and two nephews. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 24, 2010, 2:00 p.m., at St. Giles Chapel, Deerfield Retirement Community, 1617 Hendersonville Road, Asheville.
