Resided in: Asheville, NC

Major Allen Earl Dorn, USAF (Ret.) stepped out into eternity to be with God the Father and Jesus Christ his son on Wednesday, August 21, 2024.

Born in Baltimore, MD, and raised in Wilmington, DE, Major Dorn was a son of the late Earl Eugene and June Dorn.

Major Dorn proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force and graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy. He attended the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, CA, and learned to read, write and speak the Russian language. He also served as a Professor in Military Arts & Sciences at the United States Air Force Academy.

Those that were fortunate to know Allen were aware of how much he cared for others. He had a quick wit, loving heart and listening ear. He never met a stranger and was a fascinating conversationalist.

Allen was a follower of Christ. He loved to read the word of God, study the word of God and share God’s love with others. He led many to know the Lord and he discipled a multiple of men that changed lives.

One of his favorite scriptures was Isaiah 43:4 “Since you are precious and honored in my sight, and because I love you, I will give people in exchange for you, nations in exchange for your life.”

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Anne Threlkeld Dorn; twin brother, Mark Dorn (Elizabeth), of Bay Harbor, MI, and Steven Dorn (Kimberly), of Lutz, FL; and nieces and nephews, Nicholas Dorn, Valerie Coliton, Dana Warren, III, Katherine Warren, Ryan Dorn, and Eric Dorn.

Everyone is invited to join his family in celebrating Major Dorn’s life at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at the Lake Julian location of Groce Funeral Home, 72 Long Shoals Rd., Arden, NC 28704. Private burial will take place at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, Black Mountain where he will be buried with full military honors, on August 29.

  1. Al was such a great Christian inspiration to me during the short time I (and my wife, Laurie) lived in Asheville. Though he’s gone from us now we’ll meet again & rejoice in Heaven,

  2. It is with a heavy heart that we lose our dear brother in Christ, Al, but we know the heavens are rejoicing and received him into the Kingdom of God. Please pray for Patty Dorn, his surviving widow.
Al was an amazing man and a true man of God and has touched many, many lives including discipling many men around him and leading countless to the Lord.
He was a great brother-in-law, always with a quick wit and genuine love and kindness. He will be great missed.

  3. Allen was my twin brother. I have many good memories of us growing up as twins having fun, confusing teachers, fishing, playing sports and learning to drive. He realized his dream to attend and graduate from the Air Force Academy. Allen fearlessly overcame the many challenges of having MS for a long time. He led a good life that I’m sure puts him in heaven and at peace.

  4. I had the honor and the privilege of meeting Al and Patty in 1999 as a brand new believer in Christ. Words cannot begin to express the difference they made in my life. Al was not only a spiritual leader, he loved Patty in the most beautiful way. Al always had a Word of wisdom to share, direct from God’s Word, no matter what question or issue I presented. He truly demonstrated the love of Christ and impacted my life greatly! Though I cannot be there to honor him in person, I will be there in heart and spirit. Sending much love to Patty and all who knew and loved him. My most heartfelt condolences to all!
