  1. Sooo sorry, Eddie, Sandra, and Wilma Jean,
Alma was the Grandmother of My Daughter, Lisa Marie, and was a different kind of women, I could talk for hours about Her, cause that was the type of women she was. Such a dear Lady. She was the BEST X-Mother-n-law, as an X-Daughter-n-law could ask for. I never seen Her in all the 35 plus years, that She always told Me how pretty I was, Hair, body and all, She told me a lot of times, if you could not get along with My Son, ED, I have always LOVED You. My MEMORIES are MY TREASURE, She was an Angel. She is Gone from Sight but not My Heart. My Sincere Sympathy and Condolences, ALWAYS. Thinking, and Praying, for You all in the days ahead. Love, Janet

  2. What a special lady. Never met a stranger. I am so proud to have known her over the years. I always loved to hear her and my mom laughing and having a great time. She will surely be missed by many. Prayers to all the family but rejoice in knowing she is laughing , singing and most of all enjoying Uncle Bob and Aunt Sally and all her family gone before her. Love to each of you.

  3. I wil forever miss you my dear Friend. Who knew a week ago when I left you & told you we loved you, that would be the last time I would speak w/ you. You left us too soon. Mother & I will miss our daily calls, & I will miss my visits. We had a lot of good times over the years & you truly were a fighter, I so admired that in you. You are now @ peace. Thoughts & prayers to Eddie, Sandra & Jean on your loss. She was a very Special woman. Love, Barbara & Mae

  5. Yet another hinge in our family falls away. We all miss you and there are no words to fill that void. I look forward to the day that I see you again in heaven. I pray our family will use this heart breaking time to pull close and find comfort in the rest of our family, and not fall further apart. Everyone please keep in touch. ~With Love: Brandy Stephenson Burcham, great niece~

  6. Sandra, Jean and Eddie we are sorry to hear of your loss. Your mother will be missed but she is now spreading her laughter in Heaven. Our prayers are with you during this time.

  8. Alma’s husband, Benson, was my husband’s roommate at Asheville Health Care Center in Swannanoa, back in the early 2000’s. I met Alma and her niece, Florence, when they visited Benson. Alma was a great soul, and the world is a much less happy place without her in it. (BTW, Mr. Calhoun is still with us–he will be 105 in January 2015.) We are very, very sorry for Alma’s passing, and extend our sincerest condolences to her family. God bless!

  12. I am so sorry for your loss. Alma worked with my mother (Edwina Edwards) years ago at F.W. Woolworth’s Harvest House. She brought smiles and laughs to everyone she met and often cheered my mother with her antics and joking. My mother spoke fondly of Alma and how she made the day better and pass faster ‘just by being there.’ May our Heavenly Father comfort you in your time of loss.

  18. Some of my fondest memories growing up and in adult life center around eating at the Hot Shot and Alma’s humor to lighten up people and get them laughing in no time flat. You never knew what to expect when you walked in the door at the Hot Shot. That’s what made it so great. I love you Alma and will greatly miss you.

  20. Eddie, Wilma Jean and Sandra, Your Mother was one of a kind. I remember us when we were all kids going to Hazel Green Church; your Mother was always a happy person with a personality that kept everyone laughing. Always joking, cheering people up when they were down. I remember her at Hotshot wearing her pantiloons and sometimes, a shoe of a different color. She was an ‘icon’ to that restaurant and people enjoyed her antics and witty sayings. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. I’m sure that Alma is rejoicing with the Lord today. Please accept our deepest condolences.

  26. We always looked forward to Mrs. Allen (Granny to us) when she shopped at our store. She came in with the biggest smile on her face and never failed to tell each and every one of us how beautiful we were. I have never met a more positive and beautiful lady. She always left us in awe and with a huge smile on our faces! She will be missed, but I am so thankful for having been just a small part of her life. Heaven definitely gained an Angel when He called her home. You will forever live in our hearts and memories.
